Abstract This study examines the effects of air quenching and tempering at different temperatures on the mechanical, thermal, and structural properties of AISI D2 tool steel. The steel samples were austenitized at 1030 °C for 30 minutes, air quenched and then tempered at various temperatures. Following each heat treatment, the mechanical properties were assessed by measuring the hardness of the samples. Thermal properties were determined using the Xenon flash method, and structural changes were analyzed using SEM-EDS. The results indicate that the hardness values were highest after quenching, while the thermal diffusivity and thermal conductivity values were lowest in this state. As the tempering temperature increased, the hardness values decreased while thermal diffusivity and conductivity values gradually increased.
