Abstract The model is proposed to describe the phase content formation in the low alloy steels subjected to monotonous cooling. In particular, a procedure is developed to investigate the phase content of thin steel plates heated by distributed moving heat sources with several centres of localization. It is shown that the proper choice of the intensity and location of the centres of heating makes it possible to halve the maximum content of martensite and substantially decrease the non-uniformity of its space distribution in the zone of thermal influence.
