Abstract
Surface relief of cylindrical copper single crystals oriented for single slip and cyclically strained in plastic strain control up to fracture was studied using Philips 505 scanning electron microscope and interference light microscope. Both individual persistent slip bands (PSBs) and persistent slip macrobands (PSMs) were observed. Their length, width and height were determined in dependence on the position on the specimen surface. The PSMs height was found to depend strongly on the orientation of a surface normal with respect to the primary slip direction. Protrusions grow exclusively in the direction of the Burgers vector of the primary dislocations without apparent influence of the secondary slip. The height of PSMs is proportional to their width and increases with their length measured in the active slip direction and with cumulative plastic strain amplitude in PSBs.
