Abstract The effect of the composition of the cell-wall material on the deformation behaviour of Metcomb C® metallic foams was investigated. The acoustic emission (AE) response of different aluminium-based foams was recorded during indentation and evaluated with respect to the composition of the cell-wall material. The AE parameters revealed changes in deformation mechanism with increasing silicon and magnesium content in the cell-wall material.
