Propagation of plastic instabilities BALIK, J., LUKAC, P. vol. 36 (1998), no. 3, pp. 162 - 170
Abstract The microscopic cause of the unstable deformation regime known as Portevin-LeChatelier effect is the pronounced dynamic strain ageing when diffusing solute atoms modify the glide resistance in a specific manner. We attempt to describe the propagation of corresponding macroscopic deformation bands on the basis of a relaxation model that distinguishes between quasistationary and immediate flow resistances and incorporates non-local contributions to the flow stress.
